Five day Intra-Institute sports competition began at SMS today with high euphoria, zeal and verve among the students as well as the faculty and staff members of the SMS fraternity. Inaugurating the Sports Fest 2010 Chief Guest Dr. R. K. Singh, Asst.Director, University Government Board, B.H.U. Varanasi said that during his last 32 years of his sports career in B.H.U. this is the first time that an institution is conducting the sports event of this magnitude with more than six sports events and over 400 participating students. He further reiterated that sports are an integral part of any education system. It not only helps in building the physical strength but inculcates the sportsman spirit and the team spirit which is indispensable part in any walk of life be it academics or corporate.
Present on the occasion were Mr. C.P.Mishra, esteemed referee, an International Volleyball player of Eastern Central Railway, Mr. Ajay Kumar Verma, Physiotherapist, Indian Railway Handball Team and all games in D.L.W. and Mohd Ziauddin Khan, a volleyball player, D.L.W. Varanasi. The Sports Fest 2010 was declared open by Dr. R.K.Singh by the beat of the drum and igniting the ceremonial flame.
The program began with the March Past Parade of the participating teams of the post-graduate and undergraduate courses. Dr. R.K.Singh received the salute from the participating team.
